with rehearsed maxims, sanitized life advice, and unearned moral authority, their internal
defenses slam shut. They do not need your curated wisdom or your sanitized success stories.
What they crave—and what they respect—is raw, unvarnished honesty. Tell them about your
failures, your doubts, and the stupid mistakes that cost you dearly in your twenties. When you
strip away the armor of infallibility and speak to them as a fellow traveler on a difficult road, the
generational barrier dissolves instantly. Honesty builds a bridge; preachiness only burns it down.
